The Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center (Monrovia, Liberia) and African School of Governance (Kigali, Rwanda) Announce Strategic Partnership to Advance Executive Leadership Development in Africa

The African School of Governance (ASG) and the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development (EJS Center) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a strategic partnership to develop and deliver executive leadership and governance education programs for leaders across Africa. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening ethical, transformative, and gender-inclusive leadership through high-quality executive education and capacity-building opportunities.

The Memorandum of Understanding was formally signed on Thursday, 27 August 2026, at the African School of Governance headquarters in Kigali, Rwanda, by Dr. Francis Gatare, President of ASG, and Ellen O. Pratt-Harris, Executive Director of the EJS Center. The signing ceremony took place following the successful conclusion of ASG’s inaugural African Mindset Reset Forum, which convened leaders, policymakers, academics, and changemakers from across the continent to explore bold solutions for Africa’s future.

Through this partnership, the EJS Center and ASG will collaborate to design and implement a suite of executive leadership courses and learning experiences tailored to the needs of African leaders across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The programs will draw on the strengths of both institutions to equip current and emerging leaders with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to drive effective governance, inclusive development, and transformational change.

The collaboration will provide a framework for joint executive education programming, leadership development initiatives, research and knowledge exchange, faculty engagement, and other mutually agreed activities. It also reflects a shared vision of building a new generation of principled, capable, and inclusive leaders who can shape Africa’s future through excellence in governance and public service.

As both institutions begin implementation of the partnership, they look forward to creating impactful learning opportunities that strengthen leadership capacity and contribute to sustainable development across Africa.
