In Abidjan, ASG mobilizes key stakeholders to transform African governance
Abidjan, May 16, 2025 – The Abidjan stop of the African School of Governance (ASG)’s African tour concluded on May 15, after four days of intense and strategic discussions between the institution’s delegation, led by its president, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, and key actors from Côte d’Ivoire’s public, private, and academic sectors.
Three major highlights marked this visit, confirming ASG’s intention to become embedded at the heart of governance dynamics on the continent.
High-level cocktail at the Cocody Residence – May 14
A key moment of the visit took place on the evening of May 14, during a high-level cocktail at the Cocody Residence, which brought together over fifty guests: government representatives, business leaders—including women, development partners, academics, and opinion leaders.
In an atmosphere conducive to dialogue, Professor Kingsley Moghalu reaffirmed ASG’s vision:
“The goal of this African school of governance is to achieve a stable, peaceful, and prosperous Africa. This requires the training of those who will create the Africa we dream of.”
He emphasized the African foundation of the institution:
“This university, based in Kigali, is for Africa. It is intended as an inclusive training framework to foster development based on our culture and our leadership.”
Discussions focused on governance, the training of public elites, public policy, transformational leadership, and the need to build a new generation of competent and ethical decision-makers.
Strategic meeting at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI-CI) – May 15
The next day, Professor Moghalu and his delegation were welcomed by the Côte d’Ivoire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by its Vice President, Mr. Danzoumane Coulibaly.
This meeting was an opportunity to discuss potential synergies between ASG and the CCI, particularly regarding the training of mid-level executives, improving governance in organizations, and upgrading skills in the public-private sector.
“All schools teach knowledge and technology, but not mindset change. ASG was created to address African issues!” emphasized Professor Moghalu.
Meeting with the President of the African Development Bank
The final highlight of this stop: the African School of Governance delegation was received by Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB).
This meeting allowed for the exploration of links between the AfDB’s development priorities and ASG’s mission in training African public leaders.
The two figures, both former and current vice presidents of major African financial institutions, shared a common conviction:
“Good governance is the common thread of all industrialized countries. It requires efficiency in public action and real competence from leaders to create value and growth,” recalled Professor Moghalu.
“Africa must train its own leaders, capable of effectively managing its resources,” stated Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.
ASG, a catalyst for pan-African transformation
Based in Kigali, the African School of Governance embodies an African vision of public governance. It offers an innovative Master in Public Administration (MPA), aimed at professionals aged 25 to 50 with at least five years of experience, as well as short-term programs for senior executives in the public and private sectors.
Courses include: Leadership for Africa’s Transformation, Public Policy, International Relations, Economics, African Culture…
An inaugural program is scheduled from July 8 to 10, 2025, dedicated to senior African leaders, to officially launch the first MPA cohort.
Recruitment of the first cohort in progress
ASG is currently recruiting its first pan-African cohort.
“We are looking for top African talent, committed and ready to serve the public good. Whether you come from Abidjan, Lagos, or Kigali, join us to transform Africa from within,” urged Kingsley Moghalu.
A Pan-African Tour for the future of African Governance
After a successful launch in Lagos, the African School of Governance (ASG) stopped in Cairo from April 28 to 30, 2025 as part of its pan-African tour. The next stop was Abidjan, from May 12 to 15, offering a new opportunity to mobilize talents and strategic partners in West Africa. The tour will continue at the end of the month with stops planned in Nairobi (Kenya) and Maputo (Mozambique), aiming to connect the continent’s regional hubs around governance, innovation, and training the next generation of African leaders.
ASG opens applications for its first Pan-African cohort
The African School of Governance is currently calling for applications for the first cohort of its Master in Public Administration program.
“We are looking for high-potential African talents, committed and ready to serve the public good. Whether you are from Abidjan, Lagos, or Kigali – join us to transform Africa from within,” said Moghalu.
